The Ultimate Reset- Week 1!

So, if you're a follower of my journey, you already know that I've decided to embark upon The Ultimate Reset!  Some of you are probably wondering "why?"  You see me being healthy, you see me being "happy," you see me working out!  AND... for the most part that's all true... sort of!

Why am I doing this?

Yes, I meal prep EVERY Sunday, and I eat all healthy lunches, snacks, and I've had my Shake for breakfast since last August, or at some point throughout the day.. My dinners are usually on points as well.. However, the last 2 months, I've kind of spiraled "down hill" if you will... With my eating, which along with the stress of everyday life, has been putting a real damper on me.  YES, I've been pushing play everyday, and I completed every single day of 22 Minute Hard Corps, to include Hell Week, but I wish I could've stuck to the meal plan, and gave EVERY workout me ABSOLUTE ALL!!! Because, I definitely didn't.

I had started to develop a habit of telling myself it was "O.K. to eat that extra carb since I did a double workout...," or "I know a complete cookie is 2 servings, but they're so good... and I'll make up for it tomorrow!"  (by the way, they're NOT 21 Day Fix approved, and only about 1/3 or so would equal a yellow if you were making a treat swap.... The yellow container is equal to apx. 100 calories of carbohydrates... a whole complete cookie is about 360!  OR: my favorite, "Matt.. let's get Frozen yogurt, I want some plain yogurt with fruit on it!"  (P.S...I didn't have any fruit servings left.. BUT I sure did want frozen yogurt.." OR.. just the BAD of the BAD.. Pizza, or burgers, or my fav: Cliff's Ice Cream!! YEP.. and of course I followed an 80/20.... 80% of the time.. LOL!  The other 20% of the time I WAS ALL IN... my diet was like 60/40, and I HATED IT! I needed control...

SO... I made the change, I took the plunge, I was nervous, I still am, but I'm doing it, and I'll complete it, and I'll feel better, and It'll change me!

Planning for the Reset

When grocery shopping for the Ultimate Reset Phase I, the list was pretty big, and I spent about $220! YIKES! (Mind you I had some sushi in the cart for my lunch that day, and a few other things that weren't on my plan to enjoy that day, as well as some food for Matt of course!)  I spent way too long in the grocery store looking for everything I needed, but I also didn't go to my usual grocery store, since I don't shop at store that carries a huge selection of speciality items, and I felt better going to Wegman's.


The Ultimate Reset plans out EVERY meal for you, for all 21 days!  You have the option to plan your own snack from a list given to you (which changes within the 3 phases), or you could have Shakeology~ which is what I had everyday!

I didn't have the breakfast they planned for each day, because I wanted to be able to prep on Sunday for me work week, so I went with 2 different oatmeal options they had, and I stayed with the same lunch and dinner options for the most part!

I've gone a bit out of my comfort zone for sure!  I'm so used to counting colors, only being able to have so many carbs, so much oils, and so much fruit, that this is definitely different for me... It's not by any stretch of the imagination "over eating," not at all.. BUT on some days I felt like it was so different than what I'm used to, and it'll continue to be that way, and even more so I'm sure... My diet will be shifting to mostly vegan next week in phase 2,  and 100% vegan in phase 3.

My typical day looks as follows::

  • 6:00am: Supplement Combo #1 (Mineralize with distilled water and 2 Optimize)
  • 6:45am: Breakfast
  • 11:00am: Supplement Combo #2 (Mineralize with distilled water and 2 Optimize)
  • 11:30am: Lunch
  • 3:15pm: Supplement Combo #3 (Power Greens with distilled water)
  • 3:45pm: Snack~ Shakeology
  • 7:00pm: Supplement Combo #4 (Mineralize with distilled water, 2 Optimize, and 2 Soothe)
  • 7:30pm: Dinner

I've found that getting through from 6:45am until 11:30am is my hardest!  I usually would have a small mid-morning snack around 9:15-9:30.  My breakfasts this week have been super filling for the most part (amazing oatmeals!), but I get pretty hungry around 10-10:30, and just drink more water until it's lunch time!

Working Out on the Reset?

You're not supposed to be doing any sort of HIT workouts during the Reset, even though I've noticed that a lot of people do, and they're fine.  I originally made a whole schedule of different yoga workouts to include PiYO, Tei Cheng, and others from Beachbody on Demand, but I've decided to just stick with 4-5 days of PiYO for the most part.  I want to try Tei Cheng, but I haven't yet.  I've also been bringing the dog for longer walks. :)

How do I Feel?


I feel absolutely amazing!  The first few days I had a headache... I'm assuming it had to do with the lack of food I was eating, (I usually have more food towards the beginning of the day), and I have a few sips of either coffee, or green tea, and I typically have my shake in the morning.  On the Reset, during Phase one anyway, I've been using Shakeology as my snack.  (It DOES say use 1/2 of a serving.. I've been using about 3/4 to almost a full...oops!) GRANTED.. It hasn't messed with how I feel, or my results AT ALL!


I've been sleeping better, I HAVE energy, and my cravings are subsiding!

This weekend is Memorial Day, and we went to see my grandparents yesterday! AH! They had yummy BBQ food, and Cheesecake from a local cheesecake factory (which is beyond amazing..) and I totally denied it!!! WOOT! I just had my Shakeology, and watched...

I'm a little surprised... I can't lie... The day before this started I was trying to get EVERYTHING in because I KNEW I couldn't have it for "21 days.." Well guess what.. I don't plan on just jumping back into it all afterwards either.. That would defeat the purpose!!!!!!

There's actually a very specific plan I need to stick with afterwards...

So~ as you see, my meals are pretty, they're colorful, and they're quite large!!! It looks like they DO get a little bit smaller as the Phases progress, but I'm also adding in another supplement, Detox (read above).  The only recipe I wasn't crazy about was the Japanese Cucumber Salad that went with the sushi, and the miso soup!  Everything else.. AMAZING!!!!! I'm so happy, and I plan to keep them in mind when meal prepping after this for sure (even beyond the few weeks after the Reset)!

AMAZING, right?! that's 7.6 lbs 1.8 % body fat GONE! 
So today, (since today is the first day of Phase Two), I'm embarking upon new recipes, new supplements, and new feelings!!! Stay tuned for updates next week!!!

Farina with Apples, Walnuts, & Maple Syrup

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup water
  • 3 Tbsp. farina cereal
  • ½ medium green apple, diced
  • 3 Tbsp. chopped walnuts
  • 1 Tbsp. pure maple syrup

Directions:

  1. Bring water to boil in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add farina; cook, stirring frequently, for 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. Place farina in small bowl and top with apples, walnuts, and maple syrup.

Nutrition:
Calories: 359 - Total Fat: 16 g - Saturated Fat: 2 g - Cholesterol: 0 mg - Sodium: 47 mg -Carbohydrate: 51 g - Fiber: 5 g - Sugar: 21 g- Protein: 8 g
