Doesn't that SPEAK to you? It gets deeper... In the Whole 30 cookbook, Melissa Hartwig goes on to say.. you've done HARDER things.. "you've lost a parent, given birth to a child.. and so on.." O.K.. I don't have kids-- BUT I have lost a parent.. SO.. I guess I can give up certain foods.. I guess I can drink my coffee black.. Hell-- I don't even have to !!! There ARE options as far as coffee goes!!! Nutpods makes a Whole 30 approved option, there's coconut milk, almond milk, or blending it with coconut oil (WHICH I like anyway!) -- I'm just lazy. THAT'S THE PROBLEM HERE.
I've gotten lazy. THAT'S why I'm doing the Whole 30. I've gotten TOO content with just passing by.. having a little bit TOO much--MORE than here and there... and PASSING by. yep. There's that word again. AND quite frankly, I'm sick of it. Obviously. I mean, it's a NEW YEAR. It's TIME to try new things.. Gosh.. I've only had the book since-- hm... MARCH of 2016? -_- HA! #isuck
O.K... SO no, I'm NOT doing this alone. I've done similar things in the past, ya know-- like The Ultimate Reset, ALONE..and the first time was MUCH easier than the second time.. but it was TOUGH... Matt is game.. but not on 100%... I DO, however, have SEVERAL woman who will be doing this WITH me in a PRIVATE group on Facebook.. and P.S... IT'S FREE!!

What is it anyway?
O.K... yeah-- you probably want to know that! :p Simply put......It's clean eating. AND It's similar to paleo- EXCEPT I won't be focusing on the cave men.. :p AND I can have potatoes.. AND green beans (my husbands favorite... give him ALL the green beans!<3 ) BUT... no paleo goodies- even if they're made with Whole 30 approved ingredients.. like coconut and/or almond flour... -_- #itsonly30days
There are shopping lists in the Whole 30 book... There are lists of food to stay away from... There are a multitude of things that trick you into thinking they're "O.K." but they're not.... things our body actually rejects are hidden in EVERYTHING... The Whole 30 website has CHEAT-CHEATS GALORE!! Pintrest has recipes galore! The books have A TON! There's A NEW cookbook that just came out in December, and I LOVE IT! I can't wait to start just because of it! LOL!
I love Trader Joe's, and so do many Whole 30 lovers... There are EVEN "Trade Joe's Whole 30 Shopping Lists" out there! GOOGLE is your friend... for all of life.. but especially on this journey if you're joining me, or possibly going on your own.. BUT remember.... It's easier with a friend! :)
...There's ONE issue that I'm not addressing... Shakeology is NOT allowed. -_- BECAUSE they want you to eat WHOLE FOODS. AND because it contains pea protein and stevia... BUT-- It's my vitamin, and it's NOT being removed from my diet... So that's just that. So yes, I'm doing the Whole 30, but ... my post-workout meal, which they recommend having.. WILL be Shakeology. And that's just that! :)
I've tried quite a few Wholoe 30 recipes in preparation for this journey.. and I've loved them ALL! This has been one of my FAVORITES!!!!!! AND they're SIMPLE!
No Fuss Salmon Cakes
- 1 can (14.75 oz) wild-caught pink or red salmon
- 1 cup canned sweet potatoes (I use fresh sweet potato)
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup almond flour
- 2 Tbsp minced fresh parsley (or 2 tsp dried)
- 2 scallions, white and green, very thinly sliced
- 2 Tbsp minced fresh dill (or 2 tsp dried)
- 1 tsp hot-pepper sauce
- ½ tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 2 Tbsp clarified butter or coconut oil, melted (I like the butter!)
Preheat oven to 425° F and cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Drain the liquid from the salmon, and using your fingers, crumble the fish into a large mixing bowl, removing any bones. Add all the remaining ingredients—except the butter—and mix with a wooden spoon until well combined. Pop into the fridge to chill for 5-10 minutes. Brush the parchment paper with some of the melted butter, then use a 1/3 cup measuring cup to scoop out salmon mixture and drop onto the parchment. The cakes should be about 2½” wide and about 1” thick. Bake for 20 minutes, then flip each patty with a spatula and return to the oven. Bake 10 minutes more, until golden brown and crisp. Serve with a squeeze of lemon juice and Tartar Sauce.
Serving Size: makes three servings of two patties each

Whole 30 Tarter Sauce: Use an Avocado based Mayo - Primal Kitchen brand - mixed with a splash of lemon juice, 1/2 pickle (no sugar added), salt and pepper to taste.
I paired mine with a small baked sweet potato with 1/2 tsp coconut oil melted on it, and 1 tsp. almond butter and cinnamon and steamed broccoli.
